How much should I spend on a website?

What should you expect to pay for a website

There are multiple ways to price the design and development of a new website. Fixed bid or hourly are the most used to provide an estimated cost presented in the contract. A fixed bid is a set figure price for the established amount of work established at the start of the project. For example, $6,000 for a seven-page website. The hourly price approach means you will pay someone a set hourly rate like $100 an hour for as long as it takes to complete the project.

How is the website cost calculated

Since we use a SquareSpace website building platform this allows us to start the project with a template. We then customize it to create cohesive branding while properly representing our client’s purpose. This method of starting with a website design platform allows us to save a lot of time coding and building from scratch. We get to the fun part of designing and creating content much faster. The result, a website that feels custom at a lower cost. The majority of small business websites we design, develop and launch range from $3,000 – $10,000, but that's just us.

Early on in web design, it was the number of pages of a website that would determine the total cost. While this method can still provide a guide as it relates to total amount of content (meaning words, pictures, images, illustrations, imagery, files, and custom artwork that a designer might make for you) it can cost a lot to fill the pages.

We have found the most accurate way for us to price a website is based on a few key factors: how many unique templates we will be using, how much unique functionality there is, and amount of custom artwork needed.

For example, if you select a website that has two layout options (templates) – the home page and every single interior page is displayed the same (this consistency is improves the user-friendliness of your website, by the way) then it would take the designer less time to develop. On the other hand, if there are several pages with varying layouts then this would increase the design time and impact the total cost.

Why invest in a website?

Your marketing and your website are one in the same. Any good marketer and web agency will agree with this statement.

To gain the most ROI and most success out of your website and your marketing make your website the hub of all your marketing.

How do you create a powerful marketing website?

You must have a clear understanding of your business model and your marketing plan.

This is why we highly encourage a thorough planning phase as your Step 1. We see anxious business owners jump into their website design without a clear understanding of the website’s purpose, the language to use that resonates with ideal customers, and clarity around the services being offered.
